Stable development instead of revolution — how a joinery company gained confidence in its direction

A family-owned joinery business did not need a revolution in order to develop. The Humanet assessment showed that awareness and stability can themselves be major strengths.

Not every change needs to be a revolution.

A family-owned joinery company had operated successfully and steadily for years. The Humanet assessment did not reveal a need for transformation. Instead, it confirmed that consciously preserving stability could be the most appropriate form of development.

Challenge
The owner’s uncertainty: was the absence of major change a sign of stagnation or a conscious development path?
Intervention
Humanet assessment, diagnosis of the company’s developmental stage and five scenarios for the evolution of roles and responsibilities.
Outcome
Clarity and confidence in the direction of travel — without revolution, but with a plan for the future.

Context

The family-owned joinery company employed approximately 30 people and had developed steadily and consistently. Customers returned, recommendations generated new orders, and the team formed a coherent and committed whole.
Despite satisfactory results, the owner, Marek*, wanted to make sure the business was moving in the right direction. He asked us to assess the team’s values and clarify the company’s future development options.

Diagnosis

The analysis based on the Humanet model revealed an unusual situation:
  • The team was very well aligned, with all key values and competencies represented.
  • There was very little friction or tension between employees.
  • The organisation operated primarily at the level of Mediation, characterised by integration, trust and stability.
In practical terms, the company was developing in harmony with its own rhythm and was well adapted to its environment.

The dilemma

A question emerged: did the next step require a revolution? Leaders often feel pressure to change something because market trends or competitors appear to demand it. Sometimes, however, the best decision is to continue developing organically and consciously.
I wondered whether I should introduce new systems or structures, but I felt that doing so might damage something that was already working extremely well.
Marek, company owner

What we did

Rather than encouraging transformation, we developed five development scenarios covering the company’s next stage of maturity, including the gradual transfer of greater responsibility to individual roles.
We emphasised that:
  • organic development may be sufficient,
  • leaders should ask not only “what next?”, but also “is change genuinely necessary?”,
  • each step should fit the organisation’s current developmental stage.
This approach protected the organisation’s character and avoided change for change’s sake.

Results

Strategic decisions
The owner gained confidence that the company was developing in the right direction.
Awareness and calm
Pressure to transform declined and decisions became more consistent with the company’s values.
Future map
The development scenarios became a guide rather than a plan for revolution.
Najważniejszy wskaźnik
Stability as a source of strength

“This assessment gave me peace of mind. I know that I do not have to turn the company upside down. The direction we are taking is the right one.” — Marek, company owner

Lessons for boards and leaders

  • Change is not always necessary — recognising the value of stability is also a strategic decision.
  • Development happens in stages — it is rarely wise to skip phases simply because others appear to be doing so.
  • Awareness creates calm — when leaders understand the company’s current stage, they make better decisions.
